Remind your students not to be their own worst enemies and destroy everything they are working towards by sending out a 140-character tweet or a post to Facebook that they later regret.

Some employers are going beyond online searches using Google and LinkedIn for perspective employees and require potential candidates pass a social media background check. Inappropriate activity can damage their career and reputation.

Even if they think they have tight security settings on their social networking account that only allow their friends to access their profile, wall, or feeds, or think they are posting comments anonymously in a comments area, all of these types of activities can still be linked back to them.
